Interactive shows and workshops that investigate forces through hands-on rocketry!

A brief summary

These shows and workshops are run by STEVE SHAPLAND through Explorer Dome. Steve is based in Dorset and is known to many simply as 'Rocket Man'! A science teacher since 1977, he has never lost his passion for the subject and can bring his interactive shows or hands on workshops to enthrall your students with all the fantastic forces of rocket science.

Scientific Enquiry

We want to stimulate curiosity in science for all, regardless of age, gender, background or ability. Our science shows:

  • Allow for questions to share interests and explore ideas
  • Treat every child as unique, supporting personal development
  • Promote observation, prediction and exploration

  • Support and enhance the Curriculum across subject areas

Rocket Science


KS1

Key Stage One - ages 5-7

This show introduces the fun and fantastic forces of Rocket Science, children can explore the pushes and pulls powering balloon cars, air and chemical powered rockets.

In addition to a show, you can enjoy hands-on workshops for up to 30 children, where they can build their very own rockets under the expert guidance of Steve Shapland.

KS2

Key Stage Two - ages 7-11

Explore pushes and pulls, action and reaction, rockets and jets. Suprise yourself with the speed of a rocket propelled by simple air pressure and go out with a bang as we introduce chemical combustion... The sky is NOT the limit!

In addition to a show, you can enjoy hands-on workshops for up to 30 children, where they can design, build, adapt and launch their very own rockets under the expert guidance of Steve Shapland.

KS3+

Key Stage Three - ages 11-14

A stimulating, educational and exciting experience of forces in action. We build from simple rocket balloons to chemical powered rockets to get to grips with forces, momentum, projectile motion and combustion.

In addition to a show, you can enjoy hands-on workshops for up to 30 students, where they can design, build, launch, adapt and improve their very own rockets under the expert guidance of Steve Shapland.
