Conference Fun in 2024

Here at Explorer Dome, we value our presenters highly - they really are at the heart of everything that we do, and we actively encourage everyone to apply for / attend events that will further their professional development. Through offering all presenters an Explorer Dome CPD Bursary, this year we have had a bumper summer of conferences!

In mid-July, two of our presenters, Annie and Ellie were successful in applying for the BIG Event Bursary, enabling them both to attend the British Interactive Group Event in Cardiff. Click here for Annie’s impressions of the event.

Later that month, three of our directors, Shaaron, Josh and Matina, attended the first in-person International Planetarium Conference since 2018, in Berlin. Click here for Matina’s summary of the event.

In early September, Jeff, Caspar and Ellie attended The Presenter Network Conference at the Royal Observatory Greenwich in London. Click here for Caspar’s review of the event.

Later in September, Josh and Ben attended the evening reception for the INTERACT Symposium in Newcastle, before driving up to Edinburgh for the British Association of Planetaria (BAP) Conference, hosted by Dynamic Earth. They were joined at the BAP conference by Shaaron, Caz, Laura and Ellie. Here Josh showcased our portable Digistar 7 Lite system, and our very own Ellie Wood was voted onto the BAP committee as the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer! Click here for Laura’s write up of the event.

In October, Josh and Dave are on their way to attend the Full Dome UK Festival in Cardiff. An exciting event that showcases the incredible work of leading fulldome artists and producers from the UK and around the globe. This festival is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich diversity of fulldome creativity and connect with fellow immersive creatives.

Finally, as Explorer Dome is now one of the newest members of the Association of Science and Discovery Centres, in November Ben, Josh & Caz will be attending the ASDC Conference at the Royal Society in London. This unique event unites individuals from across the science engagement spectrum, aiming to strengthen our collaborative potential for a diverse and equitable scientific future. By partnering with many of the UK’s leading STEM funders, national bodies, and charities, the conference offers a comprehensive program designed to address the pressing issues facing the science community today.
